General Meetings Speaker Information 

Are you interested in speaking at one of our monthly San Mateo Mothers Club General Meetings?

Meeting Information
Our meetings are monthly, held on the second Tuesday of the month from 7PM to 9PM. Generally speakers have about an 60-90 minutes for their talks. Our meetings are casual and attended by anywhere from approximately 10 to 60 moms. Expect that some moms will have nursing babies or toddlers with them, so a few distractions are inevitable.

Our members are moms of kids under 6 years. While many do have older children due to siblings, our charter is to serve moms with kids in this age range.

Our speakers are booked anywhere from three to six or more months in advance.

Speaker Topics
We primarily look for speakers with information that pertains to the following topics:

  • Child development for ages 0-5
  • Children’s health 
  • Family finances (saving for college, Living Trusts, etc.) 
  • Taking care of mom/family health 
  • Preschools/kindergarten selection and preparedness 
  • Safety (childproofing, fire safety, etc.) 
  • Travel/entertainment for kids 
  • Home economics (cooking, organization, etc.) 
  • Any topic that is relevant for families/children ages 0-5


Speaker Information
The purpose of our meetings and, therefore, the goal of our speakers should be to parlay information. We understand many of our speakers are experts in their field because they sell products or perform their service as a business. Speaking at a meeting is a great way to introduce yourself or your business to our members. We always welcome our speakers to bring business cards, brochures, etc. to pass out to members. However, it is important that the talks focus on information dissemination, rather than direct “selling” of products or services. Generally we do not pay honorariums to our speakers, as we are a non-profit organization. This can be reviewed, however, on a case-by-case basis. Please notify the general meeting coordinator of any payment requirements.

As an additional way to interface with our members, we invite our speakers to advertise in our monthly newsletter and/or to donate something (maybe a sample product or gift certificate) for the raffle held at each meeting. Proceeds from the raffle are used for our various club activities. Past speakers have also written articles for our newsletter. Again, let the general meeting coordinator know of your donations.

  • Name, business name, address, phone, cell phone, e-mail, and website (if applicable)
  • Topic 
  • A brief outline of your proposed talk
  • If you would be interested in providing a raffle prize, handouts, business cards, brochures, etc. for the meeting, advertising in the newsletter or authoring a newsletter article
  • Any other comments or information (if you require an honorarium, please indicate that)
